Drugstore Review ~ NYC Matte Me Crazy Top Coat

Oh my goodness, how CUTE is the name of this top coat!  When I first heard about this product I thought it was too good to be true.  I can't think of any matte top coats in the drugstore at the top of my mind.  I absolutely adore the matte look for the summer.  I think it's chic and sophisticated, yet can easily be worn out on a casual beach day.  A matte top coat can easily transform a nail polish into a completely different look, practically doubling the amount of polish you have!  Not to mention, this NYC polish comes with an amazing price tag!

Price:  $1.99
Packaging:  3/5
Overall:  4/5

Claim to Fame:  "Go from shiny to matte in express New York seconds!"

Packaging:

My feelings are so-so on the packaging.  There's nothing especially cute or unique about the bottle, but I have no complaints about it either.  Out of my preference, the brush handle could've been a bit shorter so it was easier to work with.

Finish:
OMG this polish is amazing!  I cannot say more other than it is going to be hard to find a polish that can  out compete this one.  It beautifully subdues all shine to create a wonderful matte finish that looks absolutely stunning on the nails.

Staying Power:
From my experience this top coat isn't necessarily the best top coat in terms of preserving the nail from any chips.  I find that I use it more for the mattified look versus to increase the staying power of my nail polish.  Also, on one occasion after more then a week of wear the matte look seemed to be fading, but it might be due to a thin coat.

The Good:
  • The price!!  How can you beat $2.00 for an amazing top coat?  Plus, you can always find it for an even better deal at Rite Aid or CVS for 40% off, bringing the total down to $1.20
  • Beautiful matte finish
  • The only easily - accessible matte top coat at the drugstore
  • Super quick for the matte effect

The Bad:
  • Brush handle is a tad long for my liking
  • After a long period of wear the matte finish fades
  • Doesn't work especially well as a top coat

Left with top coat, Right without

Repurchase?  Even though the matte finish can fade, I would definitely repurchase.  If I decide to keep my nail color for a week +, I can easily reapply the top coat.  At the super affordable price it is unbeatable.  The top coat takes only seconds as promised to achieve the matte finish.  The matte look is PERFECT for the summertime and can be a great accessory to any outfit.  This is a must have in any girl's nail collection!

Which do you prefer, matte or shiny nails?  Leave a comment below!
